17th Edition News
BS 7671, The IEE Wiring Regulations, is the British Standard to which all domestic, commercial and industrial electrical installations must comply. These Regulations have been updated and BS 7671: 2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations (17th Edition) is to be issued on 21st January 2008 and is intended to come into full effect on 1 July 2008. From then on all domestic, commercial and industrial electrical installations must be designed, constructed and inspected and tested to comply with the requirements of BS7671:2008.
In order to ensure that those undertaking electrical work comply with this new standard, City and Guilds have revised the existing electrical installation qualifications that relate to BS 7671 and now offer new and revised qualifications which continue to meet the demand from industry, employers and training providers.
Redford Charles will be providing the revised electrical courses from January 2008. We have updated all our course material to reflect the 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and provide delegates with a definite advantage when sitting the new 17th Edition exams.
It should be noted that it is our intention to provide a substantial loyalty discount to all delegates who have previously undertaken a 2381 or 2391 course with Redford Charles.
Courses:
The new range of electrical installation qualifications that have been developed to replace the current 2381 and 2391 range of courses are as follows:
Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations Update (BS7671: January 2008) – 2382-20
This course is for candidates who have already achieved the full 2381, City & Guilds qualification. The course is a one day ‘update’ qualification covering the changes to the Regulations only . Candidates will only be able to undertake this update version of the qualification if they already possess the 2381 or other relevant City & Guilds 16 th Edition qualification since 2001.
Candidates who do not possess a 16 th Edition qualification or those that undertook the 16 th Edition update course prior to 2001 (the 2380 qualification) will need to take the full 2382-10 qualification detailed below.

Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installations (BS7671: January 2008) – 2382-10
The 2382-10 course has been developed to comply with the British Standard BS 7671 17 th Edition Wiring Regulations and has effectively replaced the previous City & Guilds 2381 BS 7671 16 th Edition full four day course. The four days will normally be one day a week over four weeks.

Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification - 2392-10
The Certificate in Fundamental Inspection, Testing and Initial Verification (2392-10) has been developed to prepare candidates for the Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations qualification. This is a four day course covering the basic procedures of inspection and, in particular, testing electrical installations. The four days will normally be one day a week for four weeks.
Candidates that are new to the industry or are unfamiliar with the procedures of inspection and testing electrical installations will need to take this four day fundamental qualification as the other 2391 qualifications are for experienced practitioners.

Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations – 2391/2391-10
The 2391-10 course has been developed to comply with the British Standard BS 7671 17th Edition Wiring Regulations and will effectively replace the current City and Guilds 2391 Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations full four day course. The four days will normally be one day a week over four weeks.
It is anticipated that the 2391-10 course will be ready by April/May 2008 subject to final agreement with City & Guilds.

Certificate in Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations - 2391-20
The 2391-20 course has been developed to comply with the British Standard BS 7671 17 th Edition Wiring Regulations and will effectively replace the current City and Guilds 2391-02 Design, Erection and Verification of Electrical Installations full five day course. The five days will normally be one day a week over five weeks.
