PV Solar Photovoltaic Systems. Planning and Installation.

Redford Charles Ltd, a City & Guilds and NICEIC Approved Training Centre, has recently been accredited to provide the NICEIC’s course for the planning, design and installation of PV Solar Photovoltaic Systems. This course has been developed by NICEIC as the principal qualification requirement for those wishing to be part of the Government’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme.

This three-day (1 day each week for 3 weeks) course is designed to provide delegates with the necessary skills and understanding of all aspects of PV Solar Voltaic Systems. The course is aimed at practising electricians with electrical installation experience who wish to improve their knowledge in circuit design and installation techniques in PV Solar Photovoltaic Systems. Companies or individuals wishing to register with a Microgeneration certification scheme will benefit from attending this course.

Delegates are required to possess an appropriate 17th Edition qualification (e.g. C&G 2382) and City and Guilds Fundamental Inspection, Testing & Initial Verification of Electrical Installations (2392-10). Moreover, delegates will need to have full registration with one of the Governments Part P Scheme Providers (e.g. NICEIC Approved Contractor or Domestic Installer, Elecsa or NAPIT enrolled member etc) or alternatively possess a C&G 2391, Certificate in Inspection and Testing.

This three day PV Solar Photovoltaic course includes both theory topics and practical exercises concluding with a written exam and a practical assessment. The course covers topics such as:

  • Cells, Modules and Arrays
  • System Components
  • System Configurations
  • On-Grid and Off-Grid Installations
  • System Information
  • System Installations
  • Safe Isolation
  • PV Calculations

Whilst this course provides the qualification for NIC registration MCS, the course is open to all as an awareness course on the subject of photovoltaic.

Those wishing to register on to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme will also need to demonstrate, to their NICEIC Assessor, their competence and understanding of the Health and Safety requirements for:

  • Working at Heights
  • Manual Handling, and
  • CoSHH

This Health and Safety qualification is a pre-requisite to enable delegates to progress on to the NIC Certification PV Solar Photovoltaic course.

Installation Contractors will also need to demonstrate that their administrative procedures meet an appropriate Quality Management System. This Quality Management System qualification is optional, but is recommended in order for PV Installers to demonstrate their competence in this area when being assessed by the assessment body.

An understanding of both Health and Safety and Quality Management System requirements is to be provided in two additional one-day NICEIC courses, which Redford Charles Ltd will be providing.

Because of the need to undertake individual practical assessments, courses will be limited to a maximum of 8 delegates.
