Graham Wretham, IEng FIET, started his career as an electrician and continued his training and development to become an electrical design engineer within a building services design office with a Local Authority. In 1984 Graham become the local NICEIC Inspecting Engineer for Kent, responsible for the assessment of the work and resources of businesses on the Council's Roll of Approved Contractors.

After undertaking this assessment role for nearly 5 years, the NICEIC management at the time soon recognised Graham’s management and organisational skills, together with his leadership qualities and promoted him to Senior Engineer, based at the London office. Graham was responsible for the efficient and cost effective management of part of the Inspectorate. Graham was also the NICEIC’s representative on various external and international technical panels, in particular Inspection and Testing requirements for electrical installations and Fire Protection.
Following a restructure of the Technical Department, Graham was promoted to Operations Manager reporting to the Technical Director. As Operations Manager, Graham was responsible for the efficient and cost effective management of all the field staff and of the staff and other resources of the Head Office Operations Section. The role also required Graham to initiate, develop, maintain and implement effective operational and management procedures principally through the Company Quality Manual.
Following a further restructure, Graham was promoted to Operations Director. As the Operations Director of NICEIC, he was directly responsible for 94 members of staff, 70 field Engineers and 24 support Staff in Head Office.
Graham was involved in a number of initiatives that restructured the NICEIC organisation, or Group, and introduced many new, radical procedures to ensure that the aims and objectives of the NICEIC were maintained within a changing, and challenging service industry.
Graham has all the appropriate leadership qualities and is able to communicate at all levels. It was his strong leadership qualities that led to his continued promotion within the NICEIC. Indeed, in the history of the NICEIC, Graham was the only field Engineer that has risen to the position of Director.
Graham’s professional qualifications include membership of the Engineering Council (IEng) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (FIET). He is also an examiner for City and Guilds of London.
