Part P Awareness Course

Part P of the Building Regulations came into effect on 1st January 2005. The implications of these requirements are wide-ranging and Principal Duty Holders of all businesses have a great deal of responsibility to ensure electrical installation compliance with these Regulations in all their domestic dwellings.

There is a plethora of information and requirements that responsible individuals and their staff need to be aware of.

This in itself raises a number of concerns. Where can one get this information? Which members of staff need this information? What does one have to do to ensure that all of our domestic dwellings comply with Part P and other Building Regulation requirements? What is notifiable work, who certifies this work and who informs Building Control? Etc, etc.

Don’t worry, help is at hand. As a leading expert on Part P and its associated requirements, Graham Wretham is currently undertaking a series of presentations and discussion seminars throughout the South East of England on the very subject. As the former Operations Director of the NICEIC Assessment Services, Graham was heavily involved in the development and implementation of their Part P Domestic Installer Scheme. Graham is, therefore, able to speak from first hand experience on the implications of Part P and its requirements. Indeed, Graham undertook a number of seminars to Contractors and Building Control staff throughout the UK during the latter part of 2004.

This course is designed to provide delegates with an awareness of the requirements of Part P. Contractors who install electrical installations in domestic dwellings and Specifiers who have a responsibility for domestic properties would benefit from this course.

This one day course provides an awareness of the requirements of the Building Regulations Approved Document Part P with regard to electrical installations in dwellings. The course also provides a review of other Building Regulations that include electrical installation requirements within those dwellings, for example:

Structures (Part A)
Fire Safety (Part B)
Ventilation (Part F)
Energy Conservation (Part L)
The course also provides an awareness of the fundamental requirements for safety as described in BS7671, the 17th Edition and also the notification requirements for domestic installation works.

Interested parties are reminded that this Part P course does not enable 'non-registered' electrical installers to self certify without recourse to the appropriate Local Authority Building Control Department. Those installers wishing to self certify and notify domestic electrical installation works should seek registration with one of the government's approved scheme providers such as NICEIC, ELECSA, NAPIT.

Successful completion of a 17th Edition Wiring Regulation Course such as the C&G 2382-10 or 2382-20 are the recognised entry level requirements for Domestic Installer Scheme Providers (see training page for information on these courses at Redford Charles)
