Want to undertake the Experienced Worker Qualification Route? Being met with closed Doors?…

There are a number of changes within the electrical industry, and this is seeing a number of candidates looking to undertake the Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) to be able to continue to perform within their industry roles.

However, due to the strict entry requirements, a number of candidates are being met with a closed door.

The Electrotechnical Experienced Worker qualification is for experienced persons who are, or have been, working in the Electrotechnical industry, practising as an Electrician for a minimum of 5 YEARS and hold a relevant Level 2 Technical qualification within Electrotechnical.

For those persons who do not meet the combined criteria above, but are experienced professionals, who typically have at least 10 years’ experience working as an electrician, you can now undertake the EWA Electrical Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding Entry Test.

This is not a short cut into the EWA – this test is a Level 3 equivalent, but used to provide evidence that candidates possess sufficient underpinning technical knowledge to gain entry onto the Experienced Worker Route Qualifications.

It is not suitable for those who do not have significant experience.

The Electrical Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding test can be taken during one of the four assessment windows throughout the year, generally in February, May, July and October.

Candidates are given 1 attempt and 2 resits (three in total). The exam and up to 2 resits must be taken in the same test window. If the learner is not successful, they must wait a further 12 months before they will be permitted to re-register and take the test again.

Learners must enrol onto an Experienced Worker Route Qualification within a 6-month timeframe of having successfully completed the applicable Electrical Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding Test for their chosen route.
