Basic Cable Calculations (Redford Charles course)

£195.00

Course Information:
This one-day course is intended for practising, experienced, electricians who undertake new installation work, where the responsibility for design and construction are undertaken by themselves. The course covers the procedures for designing simple final circuits to meet the general requirements within the scope of the BS 7671 Wiring Regulations, including:

  • Maximum demand and diversity
  • Selection of types of cable for particular uses and external influences
  • Sizing of conductors for circuits based on:
    - Current carrying capacity
    - Voltage drop
    - Thermal constraints
  • Cable capacities of conduit and trunking
  • Methods of support for cables, conductors and wiring systems

Whilst the course focuses on domestic 100A electrical installations, the design principles can easily be extended to three phase commercial and industrial circuit design, covered in more detail in the 2396 Design and Verification course.

Operatives undertaking periodic inspections (EICRs) of electrical installations will find this course of enormous benefit when assessing installation reference methods and circuit compliance with BS 7671, particularly when the initial circuit design has been altered over time.

Completing this Basic Cable Calculations course will greatly assist delegates who intend to undertake City & Guilds qualifications, such as Design and Installation of Domestic and Small Commercial Electric Vehicle Charging Installations (2921-31, previously 2919-01); Inspection and Testing (2391) and Design and Verification of Electrical Installations course (2396); all these courses require cable circuit design/calculations to be undertaken.
